The Reading and Northern Railroad is gearing up for another great passenger season.
The 2010 passenger season kicks off with a steam excursion behind No. 425 from Tunkhannock to Jim Thorpe on May 15, 2010. As in the past two years, this trip will be sponsored by the Wyoming County United Way as a fundraiser for the organization.
The train departs from Riverside Park in Tunkhannock at 9:00AM.
Passengers have three hours to tour, dine, and shop in historic Jim Thorpe, PA. The train will arrive back in Tunkhannock sometime around 8:00PM.
This is also the weekend of the Jim Thorpe Birthday Celebration, so there will be extra festivities going on throughout town! You can visit the Jim Thorpe Chamber of Commerce website for more information about the weekend’s events.
All tickets for this excursion are sold by the Wyoming County United Way. Please visit their website or call 570-836-1661 for more information or to purchase tickets.
On another note, the Lehigh Gorge Scenic Railway and Reading & Northern Railroad Passenger Department are now on Facebook. We will be posting schedule and ticket status updates, news coverage, and everything else related to our train rides. Check them out and become a fan!
Can’t wait to see the steam engines in town this summer!
