Park behind the Train Station/Visitors Center in the County Parking Lot. Walk to everything from there.
Certain places don’t have their own parking: just about every other place on the west side of town.
B&B’s and hotels are required to have parking spaces for their customers, but they’re not available for general use.
You can try to park on Broadway and W Broadway, but on a weekend or Friday night, you’re not likely to find anything. Just sayin’.
I wouldn’t recommend even trying Race Street.
So just park at the County Lot and you’re done!
After 5 PM, it’s free! Otherwise, it’s $10 weekends and $5 all other times.
Note: Amazing Jim Thorpe is attempting to work out a compromise with the Carbon Commissioners on this issue. They raised the rates to $5 weekdays and $10 weekends in February, 2013.
This is very painful to local business and tends to work against the very notion of buying local. In the spirit of compromise, we have formally proposed ( http://www.tnonline.com/2013/aug/24/burden-jim-thorpe-businesses ) that they keep the rate increase on weekdays and certain high-volume weekends (Memorial Day, 4th of July, St. Patrick’s Fall Foliage Weekends, etc.) but roll it back to $5 on other weekends.
