It’s hard to believe, but planning for the Jim Thorpe Fall Foliage Festival 2011 is nearly complete.
There are some new wrinkles this year. We’ll be presenting new special events and programs including events at the Opera House. On October 16, the Lyra Ensemble from Bethlehem presents Quatuor pour la Fin du Temps along with other selections in a 3PM classical show. Here is the full program.
On October 23, with the Carbon Environmental Center, we present Owls, a terrific program for the family. It will be held at 2 PM at the Mauch Chunk Museum.
Also there will be regular Yoga classes on the weekends at the Opera House. They might be particularly appropriate after one or two organized bicycle rides (road and mountain) leaving the train station on Saturdays, October 8 and 15. More information on the rides shortly.
Tom Storm will lead photographic seminars, so that amateurs and experts can enjoy the many artistic opportunities that exist in Jim Thorpe, and particularly in the Fall!
Free music will be heard from the downtown gazebo to the opera House steps from noon to 5 each day. A new stage is being added at Quarry street that will focus particularly on acoustic music. The schedule is firming up now, so check back often.
Our goal is to make it a relaxed event to visit, rain or shine, with lots of fun events to check out. The operative word is relaxed, even with lots of folks around.
If you’re coming, try and make it here early and then you’ll avoid the traffic that you might encounter any time after noon or so. Then you can park your car in the county lot and, if your far from the visitors center, a free van will be available to transport you to and from your vehicle. Keep an eye on the official Jim Thorpe Fall Foliage Festival site for details!
