Victor Bailey is the gold standard of jazz bassists, having played for years with Weather Report after replacing the great Jaco Pastorius. Fender Guitars even released a Victor Bailey jazz bass, thus immortalizing an amazing and prolific musician.
He will perform at the Mauch Chunk Opera House on Saturday, September 26 at 8:30 PM with a band comprising Casey Benjamin (Mos Def, Q Tip, Heavy) on saxophone, Poogie Bell (Chaka Khan, John Scofield, Roberta Flack, David Bowie) on drums, and Peter Horvath (Joe Henderson, Gregory James) on keyboards.
Victor Bailey has pedigree. His family is Philadelphia jazz royalty with his dad Morris having written tunes for Patti LaBelle , the Spinners and others, and producing many more. His uncle was the drummer for the great B3 organ master Jimmy Smith. He left home as a teenager to attend Berklee School of Music in Boston and never looked back. He has played on over a thousand different albums.
He has already performed at the Opera House in September 2008 with Billy Cobham’s Spectrum Band, an earth-shaking show that included the Santana keyboardist Tom Coster and guitarist Dean Brown.
Listen to an exclusive interview with Victor Bailey on WRTI Philadelphia on Friday, September 18th at 8:30 PM.
