Downtown at Josiah White Park and later in the day up at the Opera House three blocks up on West Broadway, we’ll have ice carvers from Sculpted Iceworks who will demonstrate their unusual art. Civil War re-enactors from the PA Irish 69th Volunteer Infantry will have activities for kids as well as marches and drills. They even bring with them a ladies’ sewing circles who will be taking up residence at the Albright Mansion.
There will be shows both Saturday and Sunday at the Mauch Chunk Opera House. Saturday night features Tusk, a Fleetwood Mac tribute group from New Jersey, and Sunday afternoon at 5 PM pianist Helen Beedle, from the Lehigh University Department of Music, presents A 19th Century Soiree, which re-creates the music and atmosphere of the salon in the Civil War era.
Don’t miss the famous Jim Thorpe Mug Walk! For $10 you can pick up a ceramic mug at the train station, and then more than 22 businesses in town will fill it for you for free.
