From free events to tours and shows, you don’t have to travel far to find great music, art and culture. It’s all right here at “Jim Thorpe on Art Weekend”. Come for the day, stay for the weekend. Book a package at one of our delightful beds and breakfasts. Just bring your friends and we’ll do the rest.
Headline event: open studio and gallery tour, a self guided tour sponsored by Jim Thorpe Art. Hours are 1pm—7pm Saturday, May 14; 12 noon-4PM Sunday, May 15. Walking map available on our website.
Headline event: free concert in the Josiah White Park at the train station by Eponymous, a popular regional group led by the powerful voice of Shannon Marsyada.
Headline event: an evening concert in the Mauch Chunk Opera House featuring Yarn, a crowd pleasing band that weaves technically impressive song-crafting with tales from the road of life. Tickets: $20 each, available online at the Opera House website.
Headline event: “Dinner at an Art Gallery “ with local culinary artist Heriberto Yunda serving a two course dinner with wine at Moya where his wife Stephanie Verme displays her colorful action paintings on the walls. $45 prefix, reservations required.
A showcase of art in our community includes:
“A photo tour of Jim Thorpe” with professional photographer Tom Storm. Learn to get the best out of your camera, and take shots you always dreamed of. Tickets $10 each, available online at our website. Proceeds benefit the art festival foundation. Remember to bring your camera.
“Tour of Cemetery Art” with local historian Jack Sterling. Take rubbings of the art on the headstones, and learn the history of who is buried in our oldest cemetery. Tickets $10 each, available online at our website. Proceeds benefit the Mauch Chunk Historical Society.
“Amazing Tales of Art in Old Mauch Chunk” with our best story teller, Jack Gunsser who will appear in costume and regale you with wonderful stories about famous artists like Louis C Tiffany whose work shaped our town. Tickets are free to bed and breakfast guests. Otherwise, $5 at the door. Jack will appear later in the afternoon at the Race Street Garden near St. Mark’s Cathedral as a free event.
“Poetry and dramatic readings by local artists at the Gilded Cupid bed and breakfast. Free event. See tour map for location.
“Contemporary Stained Glass – a lecture and demonstration ” with stained glass master artist Nic East. Free event at Hill Home Forge bed and breakfast.
